GRAEF has worked with clients on residence halls, student centers, libraries, laboratories, academic facilities, parking structures and sports facilities across the country for over 50 years.
University of Wisconsin-Madison Leopold Residence HallThe University of Wisconsin-Madison constructed a five-story residence hall on a very small, multi-tiered site. GRAEF provided structural engineering for the LEED® Gold Certified, 64,500-square-foot residence hall which complements the surrounding historic district.
In addition to resident rooms, the hall includes a recreation room, laundry room, music room, and a study den and social lounge with kitchenette on each floor. The residence hall is home to the GreenHouse Learning Community for students interested in working and living more sustainable. The community has a 1,000 square foot greenhouse on the building’s fourth floor.
Sustainable features include roof-mounted solar panels, low-flow plumbing fixtures, operable windows, individual climate controls in each room, and electricity and water consumption monitors throughout the building.
The hall provides parking for over 100 bikes and nearly 100 percent of residents utilize public transportation, cycling or walking.
