Great Lakes Naval Base GIS Study
A strategy to successfully maintain and update the utility infrastructure is essential for developing a training campus.GRAEF prepared the Great Lakes Naval Station Training Support Center Comprehensive Utility Study as a complementary document to a Master Plan and a Recapitalization Plan. Successfully identifying necessary improvements will result in efficient, practical, and cost-effective utility distribution systems to meet both current and future needs at the Training Support Center.
Mapping was completed for existing utilities as an asset database within a Geographic Information System (GIS) geodatabase. Utility systems that were studied and mapped included the sanitary collection system, storm water collection system, water distribution system including fire protection, electrical power distribution, and communication distribution systems. This information was then used to model existing conditions. With updated mapping prepared from the collection of utility data, models were prepared to provide system analysis relative to future demands resulting from redevelopment at the Training Support Center. These analyses indicated how various utility infrastructures should be upgraded to support future facility development.
