University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Kress Events Center

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay wanted to expand their student athletic facility to accommodate an increased demand of services with the University’s new NCAA Division 1 status. The expansion includes a new performance gymnasium, practice gym, turf gym, and exercise room with indoor track.

GRAEF provided site/civil engineering, landscape architecture, wetland permitting and survey services. The site/civil and landscape design included sustainable, “green” features, such as native plantings and storm water management facilities.

GRAEF landscape architects worked with the design team to develop a master plan which met the needs of the University and fit into the natural character of the campus. The master plan included a large assembly plaza between the main entrance and patron drop off. The plan also provided campus connections, accent plantings, landscape berming, parking, and groves of trees to help anchor the building onto the site.

The site/civil design included a new water loop around the building, new sanitary sewer service, a new storm sewer system, relocation of Sports Center Drive, and construction of a 300 car parking lot. Site/civil design challenges included dealing with high groundwater on the site, and wetlands which impacted the desired locations of parking and roadways

The overall project is partially funded by student contributions and was designed to meet the needs of the students in an environmentally-friendly way.
