San Juan Regional Medical Center

San Juan Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) is a regional full-service, Level III -168 acute care bed hospital serving Farmington, New Mexico and San Juan County and providing specialized medical service to the Four Corners area of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah.

SJRMC is a locally owned and governed, not-for-profit hospital with strong community ties, dating back to 1910. Two local physicians originally started the small, 8-bed facility and it was incorporated in 1952 as a not-for-profit. The Board of Directors is selected from a hospital corporation, whose membership is made up of representatives from over 86 non-profit community organizations.

SJRMC vision is to be known as the most personalized quality health care provider. The East Tower Addition, which is scheduled to open in 2006, is one component of the project that will position SJRMC to continue its long-standing tradition of providing personalized healthcare and it’s mission of creating enthusiasm and vitality in healing. The new 5-story, 167,000 square foot addition along with the renovated spaces will economize patient bed areas and add an additional 48-beds. GRAEF provided structural consulting for the project.

Sustainable design concepts where used at SJRMC. Although the hospital decided not to pursue formal certification through the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Green Building Rating System, the level of sustainability of the new facility would achieve a “Certified” level of LEED certification if the commissioning processes were used.

GRAEF provided structural consulting services for the new SJRMC East Tower expansion and Outpatient Diagnostic Center.
