Wisconsin State Capitol Building, East Wing Restoration

The primary goals of this project were to restore what is perhaps Wisconsin's most historically significant building to its original condition, while upgrading the mechanical and electrical systems to modern standards.

Originally built in 1906 and 1917, the $30 million restoration and rehabilitation of the East Wing represents a comprehensive effort that extended from preliminary research and programming through construction activities. Intensive survey, documentation and research were key components to the planning and execution of this project. The project included restoration of all public spaces, rehabilitation of private office and support space and integration of new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and telecommunications systems while actively protecting the State Capitol building’s historic and architectural quality.

GRAEF evaluated the existing structure for the addition of mechanical and electrical equipment, piping, ducts, addition of electrical raceways in floor, and design of new network of utility tunnels at basement level. Construction plans and specifications were prepared for structural modifications.
