John Guttman, former president of Consulting Engineering & Science Inc., will make a transition to becoming a senior associate and coastal market leader at GRAEF-USA Inc.’s Miami office on July 1.

In conjunction with that transition, Nelson Ortiz will be promoted as the leader of the GRAEF Miami office.

Guttman has more than four decades of experience in all areas of civil, coastal, environmental, sanitary and utility engineering. He has been extensively involved in the planning, permitting, design and construction of a wide variety of both private and public coastal projects throughout south Florida.

“John has had an illustrious career as he helped build Consulting Engineering & Science Inc. into one of South Florida’s most dynamic and impactful companies. That’s what made the company such an attractive acquisition for GRAEF in 2018,” said GRAEF CEO John Kissinger. “We’re certain to continue to tap into John’s talents and experience in his new role as the senior coastal market leader.”

Ortiz was previously the vice president of CES and has more than 23 years of experience in the areas of land development, utility systems design and coastal engineering. He has been responsible for the design, preparation of construction documents and construction administration for a variety of residential and commercial site development, roadway, stormwater management, and drainage, water and sewer and coastal projects.

Ortiz has a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Florida State University.

“Nelson has demonstrated the skills and experience needed to lead GRAEF’s Miami office. We’re confident he will help us grow our Miami operations and increase our presence in the Southeast,” said Burt Naumann, senior vice president, and regional operations manager for GRAEF.
